FRU-FRU

The FRU-FRU Puppet Theatre started in 1984 as a typical suitcase theatre and became a professional family theatre in 1993. Their shows are trying to combine famous children's stories with suitable puppet images. The combination of acting, puppeteering and live music unveils the magic world of objects which come to life. Child-like, simple objects magically become puppets and thus part of the world reality.


In fifteen years this family theatre has become a repertory theatre with shows for all ages and with more than 250 shows every year. The FRU-FRU theatre cooperates with different distinguished directors of puppet shows, artists, authors, musicians and puppeteers. The theatre performs throughout Slovenia and abroad, in neighbouring countries where Slovene people live. Internationally, it's taking part in different distinguished festivals all over Europe, in Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Croatia and Poland. The FRU-FRU theatre gained international recognition and has won many awards. In September 2007 the show Zlatko the Little Mole (Krtek Zlatko) received an award for transposing a literary text into a puppet performance at the 4th Biennial of the Slovene puppet artists.

 

The theatre is also involved in organization of different events and festivals, such as an international puppet event The Labyrinth of the Moments (Labirint trenutkov), regional meeting of children puppet groups in Slovenia (Lutke zmaja Franceta), cultural walking tour (Prešerna pot), procession with Santa Claus in the Ljubljana municipality between 1999 and 2005, Carnival and Mardi Gras celebrations, the fairy town in the Zvezda park (Pravljično mesto v parku Zvezda) etc. In the last six years the theatre has significantly contributed to the livelihood and cultural image of the capital of Ljubljana and abroad with events such as international street festival Emonska promenada, street festival at Čevljarski most (the Cobblers' Bridge), the New Year and Christmas festivities, events for children in the Zvezda park, Dvorni trg (Palace Square), the Zoo and the Tivoli park.
