The puppet ensemble of Pionirski dom, led by writer and educator Lojze Kovačič, was one of the leading puppet groups in the area of ​​Yugoslavia in the 1980s. The group has established itself with its innovative, experimental performances aimed at youth and adult audiences. From the core of the ensemble formed a “faction” of FRU-FRU, a group that created performances for children. FRU-FRU has become one of the first travelling theatres in Slovenia and Yugoslavia. Shows from a suitcase have a simple set design, are communicative and playful and can also be performed in smaller spaces, kindergartens and schools. For the first year, FRU-FRU has toured all over Slovenia, with the funds raised from children shows they funded their experimental projects and performances for adults. The FRU-FRU puppet group, in its original composition (Irena Rajh, Ava Lokošek, Andreja Hočevar, Barbara Bulatovič and Mateja Bizjak), has prepared five premieres.

LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD Season 1983/1984

Fairy tales are always interesting. And like all good fairy tales, our show has been entertaining children all over Slovenia for many years, though not everything is as it actually happened in a fairy tale. A fun, playful and communicative show for all ages, since 1984, it has been featured in various acting groups and events.

TRIČ-TARČ 1986 Season, 1992 Restoration

The Clowns Trič and Trač accidentally run into an old warehouse before the storm. The initial quarrel turns into a game in which old socks, shirts, hats and toys are transformed into puppets … The show is a collage of short stories in which live play and play with objects are interwoven.

THAT HAPPY DAY OR THE CAT WAS MARRIED 1987/88 Season

A black stray cat falls in love with a beautiful house pussy. Every night, he plays on his guitar and promises her everything if she becomes his wife … A fun and dynamic performance, full of horrific complications, was created by the literary proposal of Josip Jurčič.

THE MAGIC CHEST Season 1889/90

Kljucec and Pavliha find an old, magical chest. Whatever you put in your chest, it doubles miraculously. So they get a whole basket of brushes from one brush, a full nest of mice from one mouse. The story is amusingly complicated when Pavlih’s wife Marjeta falls into the chest … Fran Miličinski’s humorous story is played with traditional hand puppets.

CUFEK Season 1991/92

In the play, which was created after the picture book by Feri Lainšček and Marjan Mančko Cufek modrian, we get to know the friendly and kind, red-haired fluffy Cufek and his street friends. He likes to help them, but also like to joke with them.
