The Four Seasons

At one end of the world, in Africa, lives Miroslav, a kind and good-natured lion who is terribly proud of his mane. But this mane is something special. It keeps growing and growing and doesn’t stop until one day it reaches the ground. “You’ll need a haircut,” says his mother. But Miroslav doesn’t want to go to the hairdresser…

At the other end of the world, in Antarctica, lives a penguin named Frederik, who dreams of flying to the stars—touching them, swinging on them, or even taking a bite…

In Africa, there’s also an elephant named Gašper, who loves knitting scarves. But in the hot savannah, nobody needs scarves. Yet a stork, who flies from north to south every year, knows a family in distant Europe who would be very glad to have some warm clothes.

In a greenhouse lives a caterpillar named Emerik, who one day became very hungry. He ate and ate until he was so full he couldn’t move anymore. And then he felt that something was about to change…

The performance is inspired by the picture book written and illustrated by renowned Croatian illustrator Pika Vončina. It’s a collage of four independent stories connected by a common thread—each one symbolically represents a season of the year and all explore themes close to children: growing up, childhood, friendship, and parenthood.

Each story can be performed on its own or as part of a longer show featuring two, three, or all four stories. Most often, we perform it as a combination of spring-summer or autumn-winter tales.
