ARTISANS
Artizani is a student puppet-artistic group, which began its journey in 2003. Since then they have staged a show The Golden Bird (Zlata ptica), participated circus workshops (Albert and Friends, London), puppet animation workshops (Irena Rajh Kunaver) and theatre workshops (Branka Glazer Bezeljak). They have also been a part of the sreet festivals Emonska promenada (Ljubljana) and Špancirfest (Varaždin). In 2007 they wrapped up the trilogy of staging famous theatre stories by adapting The Wizard of Oz (Čarovnik iz Oza) and creating a show on stilts The Dragon and Little Marjetica (Zmaj in Marjetica).
In making of shows the members have been active in different workshops – theatre workshops (Tomaž Gubenšek, Branka Bezeljak), dance and artistic workshops (Jana Mendel, Ian Owens), acrobatics and trapeze (Nika Gabrovšek), and stage movement and fight workshops (Brane Završan). The mentour of the group is Irena Rajh Kunaver.
Success of the show the Golden Bird in London at the Youth Circus Festival in Hammersmith, at the Riverside Studios (12-19 June 2004) opened the door for the group to different international festivals and performances in Slovenia and abroad (PUF Koper, Alpe Adria, Trnfest in Slovenia, Nyrbator in Hungary, the Cikl Cakl Festival in Austria, Ostrov in the Czech Republic, the Jadran Festival in Croatia, and CirkOOH! CirkAAH! in Belgium).
In Slovenia the show also received many positive critiques, and the group was portrayed in various newspapers (Mladina, Frka, Deloskop, Delo – Kažipot, Naša žena etc.). And the interest for the group is stil growing. At the Transgeneracije festival in 2005 it received an award for a great contribution to the field of youth modern art, and at the 44th Linhartovo srečanje festival (festival of theatre and puppet groups in Slovenia) it received the Matiček award for the artistic image of the performance.
The show The Wizard of Oz successfully participated at the international youth circus festival CirkOOH! CirkAAH! in Leuven, Belgium, in 2007. In 2008 the show received the top prize at the Transgeneracije festival and was chosen to participate at the Vizije festival for youth theatres. In 2009 it was participated at the world festival of the youth theatre Wienextra in Vienna.
